10 Years

On this day in 2010, I wrote my first blog post.

Honestly - it wasn’t very good. I didn’t really know what I was doing. Hell, I still don’t, but I liked it and carried on with it, albeit sometimes more frequently than others.

Let’s recap. In my first post. I was 21, a recent graduate searching for my dream job in film, and had just quit my job as a shop assistant at a high street store.

21 year old me would be thinking where the hell did it all go wrong. I was supposed to be successful in my career, married with kids and happy with life by now, but instead none of those things have worked out for me.

In so many ways, I’m just back to 21 year old me, contemplating giving up all security to chase a dream that probably will never work out anyway. Now I think about it, there are so many similarities between my situation now and 10 years ago.  The thing that’s different is the dream.

Hi. I’m Heather. I’m 31. I’m a teacher, with a house and a cat but I’m oh-so-desperately hoping for a family of my own.

So I guess I’ll let you know how that goes.

This blog has been my outlet over the past decade -  I think about posting a hell of a lot more than I actually do. I don’t know who reads this, but thank you if you have been a consistent reader, and sorry for all the random drivel. Here’s to the next decade!

In which waffle on about nothing until I remember that I had more exciting news.

I made a promise to my self at the beginning of the year that I would make more of an effort to see my nan, with the goal of going at least every two weeks. Today, I saw her for the second time this year. Good start.

As for the rest of the day, I pretty much just watched Playful Kiss and ate chip and dip. That's three days in a row that the most substantial part of my diet has been tortilla chips, salsa and sour cream and chive dip. I think its valid though; carbs from the chips, vegetables from the salsa, and diary from the sour cream ... that's pretty much everything you are supposed to have in a balanced diet, right?

Ooo, I got an email about another short in Oxford today. Apparently, they are going to compile the first two and this new one into a feature film, and everyone involved will get a profit share. I promised myself I wouldn't work for free again, and the week-long shoot dates are less than a month from the wedding. I know I can't do it, I'm not sure I really want to, but it is a little bit gutting to not be able to finish this thing. It feels a little like giving up half way through, and I hate that. It's been the same crew and cast (with a few additions) for the first two, and I hear through the grapevine that a lot is to be expected from the final instalment. At any other time, I probably would go for it just to see it through. Its just such as shame that it had to be so close that I have no idea right now if I can risk it. The wedding will always come first. For now, I think I'm going to have to make it clear to them that I have a prior commitment, and ask to see a script to determine how much work will be involved. Basically not saying yes or no until I know more about the shoot and my progress with the wedding.

When I read the email, I firmly said to myself 'no' right away, but while in the process of writing this post, I spoke to my mother and she seems to think I should mull it over and 'not make any rash decisions'. So I guess I'll do that.

Welcome!

Hello! Welcome to my first blog!

I have been a long time reader of blogs, but never had my own until I thought, 'Hey, why not?' so here we are.

A little background to me, I'm 21, just graduated with a degree in Costume (yeah I know, its a bit ... umm ... different) and am currently searching oh-so-desperately for my dream job in TV and Film.

So, I guess I'll let you know how that goes.

Oh yeah, and I also very recently did something quite stupid, but something none the less I cannot regret.

I quit my job yesterday.

Yeah. My only source of income, even if it was something completely unrelated to my career and had no benefits to my life whatsoever other than a small dollop of money into my account.

BUT with every door that closes a window opens, as yesterday I also got a small part time job that will at least keep my head above the water of having no rent, so its all good! Now at least I can fully concentrate on getting my DREAM JOB :)

I'll update this blog with any news I have, and also anything random or what have you that I feel the need to share. While I realise very few people will actually ever read this, and that its probably not very interesting, I hope anyone that does enjoys it. So thanks for reading :)
