A couple of days ago, I saw in the news about Onew’s enlistment date being set for next month. Initially, I was just sad that SHINee would be losing him for two years, but then I thought about seeing them promote with three members, and I’m not going to lie, it broke my heart a little. I cried when I saw Super Junior reduced to just four people on stage, but there is something so very much more heartbreaking about SHINee missing members.
Because that’s what it’s going to be like from now on. Assuming Taemin doesn’t enlist until he has to, it’ll be another 5 or 6 years until they can promote together again. It wouldn’t be ridiculous that at some point they’ll all be in the military except Taemin, or Onew after he’s back.
No doubt they’ll all keep busy in their personal careers. Hopefully Onew will go back to acting, and I’m sure Minho will before and after. Key has just launched his solo career so no doubt he’ll do more of that, and Taemin is already a well established solo artist. They all have back up plans.
To be honest, with the new laws in place, they have less time now, and less freedom. For Super Junior, they could defer until 30, and it didn’t really affect them before, but now, they’ve knocked two years off and added travel limitations. Onew may be cutting it fine enlisting 4 days before his 29th birthday, but Key only has 10 months until he is 28, and just over a year for Minho.
I’m assuming the 28 is in international age, because if it’s Korean age then they should all pretty much enlist right now. Except Taemin. Because he’s the baby.
They SHOULD all enlist together and then SHINee could just go on hiatus for as little as 21 months until they all come back ...
With SuJu, they could cope without pretty much everyone except Donghae and Eunhyuk - apparently - seeing as they didn’t do anything while they were away but revamped everything for their return. There were so many of them. With SHINee, its not so simple. I guess technically any combination of Onew or Taemin and Key or Minho would work, but that doesn’t mean I want to see it that way. I think I would rather wait for them to return together.
There’s already a massive empty space in SHINee, I don’t think I can handle another one.

Explore
Instagram has a feature called explore, a page which shows you suggested content based on things you’ve previously liked, searched for or that people you follow have liked.
Normally, my explore page is full of something to do with the korean entertainment industry, namely funny clips of SHINee, BTS and Super Junior, with a few other artists shown in on occasion.
However, you watch one video of a puppy dancing while getting a hair cut * and all of a sudden, half your explore page is of dog grooming videos. I don’t like dogs, and I don’t care for seeing them with or without a pair of scissors in their face.
You somehow get sucked into a series of food asmr videos one time, and then you are bombarded with people eating ice and aloe vera for weeks to come. I get some people find it relaxing or tingly or whatever, but I’m not going to lie, I watch these things unwillingly with morbid fascination. Like I can’t not look at it. Nobody wants to straight up bite off a chunk of aloe vera and eat it, and you can see that she finds it bloody disgusting too, but hey, each to their own. **
Give me back SHINee being dorks and kiss scenes from korean dramas.
*ok so I may have watched that one video like a thousand times, but it was cute, he was DANCING.
** there is a part of me that quite wants to start an asmr account where I eat squishy foods and they make crunching sounds and vice versa. Like I’m eating a doughnut and instead it sounds like I’m biting through a raw potato. I think that’d be funny. Plus I think asmr makes a lot of money. I’d like to get paid to eat.

*whispers* SHINee’s back
I started watching Six Flying Dragons. I currently have no idea what the hell is going on.
In other news, I found out two interesting things today. Firstly, that Henry is at the end if his 10 year contract with SM and has decided not to renew. This is no surprise really, he’s been quite vocal with how difficult he has found the company in recent years, but it does make me sad. I worry about what will happen with Super Junior M. I’ll also be sad to see his influence gone in other SM artists work too. But I hope it works out for him and he can have the freedom that SM never afforded.
It does seem like SM are loosing a lot of their talent lately. Obviously not counting the law suits, but first half of SNSD didn’t re-sign, and I’ll bet that f(x) are coming up for renewal soon and I’ll be super surprised if Amber at least doesn’t leave - judging by her recent YouTube career building and solo releases. Super Junior all re-signed, so it looks like they are all here to stay, and TVXQ probably are too. Hopefully SHINee are as well, but I can’t find anything solid about their contract situation, only that they are coming up to their 10 year anniversary.
In celebration of this, SM announced that SHINee would be making a comeback. I’m both really sad and super happy about this. Sad because a comeback minus one member is heartbreaking, but happy because they are and always have been one of my most favourite bands and I will always be excited about their new releases. The members all seem to be keeping busy, except Jinki, I’ve not really heard anything from him other than speculation that he wrote the 10th anniversary comeback advert.
I still feel my eyes prickle when I see the 5 of them together.

SMTown
All of the SM artists are in Dubai at the moment for SMTown, and there has been a lot of activity on social media covering their visit. I saw Minho dancing, which was good, and Key has been posting a lot on his Instagram so I think that’s good too. Taemin always has that serene smile of his, so I’m hoping that he is doing okay too. I’m only really still worried about Onew.
His charges were dropped the other day, finally. Basically, months and months ago, he got really drunk one night, fell over and grabbed a girl on the way down. She went to the police but pretty much instantly dropped the charges, but the claim had been made and investigations had to be done. It was a huge scandal and prevented him from promoting with SHINee. This was upsetting at the time, but plain heartbreaking when Jonghyun died and we realised that was the last chance for the boys to perform together. At the funeral, he didn’t look well, and at the airport the other day, he just looked ... small and sad. There’s been a lot of photos and videos from the top of the Burj Khalifa but I’ve yet to see Onew and that worries me a lot. I’m sure he must have been there, as it looks like everyone is (SMTown, more like SMCity) - I just want to see him messing around with his friends like he used to, with Key slightly off to the side looking all embarrassed.
Ok so I’ve just spent a L O N G time on instagram and have finally found proof that Onew was at the tower, and was smiling. Leeteuk did some form of backstage thing at the concert so I need to find a subbed version of that to get a better idea what they were saying, but they all seemed okay. I even watched some fancams of the show, and yes, I have tears streaming down my cheeks but at least they looked like they were having fun.
My heart is a little more at ease now.
Happy birthday Jonghyun 🌹

Shake it!
It's August ... how the hell did that happen??
I am also just about to hit `10000 page views on this blog, so that blows me aways as well.
<3 br="br" x="x">3>
EDIT: ummm so someone was sleep posting again last night.
Sleep blogging + pissed off = very little effort.
Sorry.
We went to see Magic Mike last night. I don't think I have ever seen a cinema screen with literally no men in it before. Even Twilight had more guys in attendance.
Sure, its a film about male strippers, but in amongst the topless men there were a fair few topless women as well.
The plot was a little predictable and I'll admit to switching off slightly until they started taking their clothes off again, but in general, it was an enjoyable film. It wasn't too romance-y, nor was it too objectifying, focusing on the fact that these boys can dance as well as the whole stripping thing.
Mostly though, it just made me want to watch Step Up and dancey films like that.
I wish I could dance. Unfortunately, it is something that needs natural talent. For example, Channing Tatum has it, whereas I think Alex Pettyfer just learnt the routines. Its the same with most entertainers. EunHyuk of Super Junior has natural talent, KyuHyun only knows what he is taught. Its obvious when they are asked to improvise and Hyuk can just throw something out there in a second, while Kyu looks like a bunny caught in headlights. A very cute, evil maknae bunny.
Right, time to stop getting distracted by strippers and SuJu, and head out to get a drink and some fruit for lunch.

Ikenai Taiyou
I haven't got anything to post about today. My day was pretty unproductive, so I don't really have anything new to share.
I am quite liking the blogger app though. It gives iPhone post a new, less negative meaning. It's just a lot easier than using the web-version.
Also, I'm kind of hooked on this SuJu fanfic. It's about a girl who is forced to pretend to be a guy while living in the SuJu dorms, and pretty much is identical to Hana Kimi.
Thinking about Hana Kimi, the Korean version will be airing soon, with MinHo from SHINee and Sulli from f(x) as the leads. Tonnes of other SM artists are likely to be in it as well, so I'm looking forward to it. Can't complain at another version of Hana Kimi!
Sorry, this was another one of those posts that you couldn't give a crap about.

Dream High
I was worried I wouldn't be able to get this post to you this evening. If you are a regular reader of my blog you can probably guess why.
Yup ... my laptop clearly wants to get thrown out of the window. EDIT: Okay ... it actually just screamed at me, in a little electronic voice. I'm starting to think its possessed.
Anyway, so I have just finished watching Dream High. I think. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending; it felt like something was missing, almost like I had fallen asleep and missed a scene or two, which I am fairly certain I didn't. I started watching the special, which seemed to be some sort of concert, but I got about 2 minutes in and couldn't stand the screaming any more.
Dream High is centred around the students of Kirin Arts School, a training academy for pre-debut idol stars. Hye Mi, a stubborn and emotionless girl, is forced into doing whatever it takes to attend in order to pay off her fathers debts, and even pushed away her best friend, Baek Hee, who becomes her bitter rival. Sam Dong is a country boy who knows nothing about modern music, but falls in love with Hye Mi. Jin Guk, Hye Mi's forgotten childhood friend that got him through a difficult time, in return, tries to help her. Pil Suk has an amazing voice but is overweight and completely head over heels with Jason, the most popular and talented of the school. These students are watched over by Teacher Kang, the only one who will believe in them.
I said to begin with that I was afraid this wouldn't be my sort of thing; far too High School Musical and Fame for my taste. Yeah, I was right. Kind of. There was a lot of singing and dancing and general american-ness about it, but I felt the plot was much deeper, which was a very good thing. Each character had problems to overcome, from debt and childhood abandonment to serious illnesses and rape. Pil Suk, not so much, she just had to loose weight to have a chance at a career and for Jason to realise he liked her, which annoyed me a little. Although the entertainment industry is centred on appearance so at least it was honest. All these deep issues did mean the production must have got through a hell of a lot of tear stick, and although everyone on the screen cried all the time, I did not. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it was sad - mostly when Sam Dong was having a hard time, that near broke my heart - but for the most part, I found a lot of the emotion a bit soft and unnecessary.
Mixed in with all the tear stick, there were some really funny parts and I did enjoy the way the plot and the characters developed. Sam Dong was adorable, but there was always something between Hye Mi and Jin Guk so you were never really sure who to cheer for. The Pil Suk and Jason sub plot was so cute, and once again, literally everyone got their happy endings, even the teachers. It was a good series, I can see why it was so raved about and I would recommend it, I will just most likely forget all about it soon enough.
There were a lot of famous people in it. Most of the cast are prominent in music as well as drama, such as Jin Guk and Jason being from 2pm, Hye Mi from Miss A, Baek Hee from T-ara, and Pil Suk being more commonly known as IU. Leeteuk and Eunhyuk from Super Junior made a cameo, during which I fangirled majorly.
Next up is Full House. I know of the name, but that's about it. I gather it is one of the older dramas that deserves its place on the most popular charts, kind of like Nobuta Wo Produce, ranked because of more than just pretty faces and popular actors ... but then again, it does star Rain, probably the most famous Korean Idol of all.

Sam Dong and Jin Guk fighting over underwear. It amused me.

Stand Up!
You know, its odd.
My legs ache so much, I feel like I must have walked about 20 miles yesterday.
I did not. I doubt I even walked 100 yards in one go. My yesterday consisted of sitting on my bed watching My Girlfriend is a Gumiho while eating an Easter Egg and the accompanying malteasers, interrupted by a brief visit to my grandmother. I didn't even do my hula-ing.
Maybe I have a long lost twin out there somewhere who just ran a marathon. Or maybe I ran a marathon in my sleep, thoughtfully showering and putting myself back to bed afterwards.
Back to being good from now on. I was going to try to cut down on my carbs again, but then my father cooked rice and baked potato for tea, so that plan went belly up. Although, thinking about it, I didn't really eat it so its OK. I was going to drink more water as well, but that kind of slipped my mind when I hit a brick wall on the dresses.
The visible grain line on the chiffon sure looks nice, but its biting me in the ass now. I hate chiffon. Why I was so happy when my bride said she wanted it I don't know. Tell a lie, its because it's pretty. A bitch to work with, but pretty.
In other news, someone threw a bra on stage during Super Junior's Paris concert. The look on their faces in the fancams are hilarious. Bless their innocence, even if they do hip thrust a lot.

Baby Don't Cry
I was watching the EXO showcase earlier, (yes ... after a million and one teasers, and two 'prequel' singles, they are actually debuting... maybe... it could be a 'prequel' album) and while they were reviewing the teasers, I noticed one of the songs was called 'Baby Don't Cry'.
Big Bang have a song of the same name, as do U-Kiss.
Apparently, so does 2Pac, but I am less interested in him, even if he is dead now.
Maybe Exo think having a song with that title is some sort of success talisman. I think being a part of SMtown is enough of a good luck charm.
I'm not really sure where I was going with this. It's just something that I thought I would write about, but now having made my point, I am left with a rather pathetic looking post. It came out better in my head.
Interestingly enough, 2Pac's version is 'Baby Don't Cry (Keep Your Head Up)'. This post was very nearly 'Why? (Keep Your Head Down)'. Well, its interesting to me, because I know what game I'm playing.
In other news, I found videos today of Heechul being Heechul while serving his mandatory military service. He is a DJ at the district office in which he is stationed. He was dancing to SHINee's Sherlock and it made me happy.

Back in Business
Yay! I have a working laptop again! Even if it is all different and I don't know where anything is anymore ...^^. It took me ages to find even iTunes before I realised that I had to use the desktop icon. I'm going to have to train myself out of getting to everything through the start menu, I think. As well as re-install everything, unless it's all hiding in weird places too.
To be honest though, I'm just glad to be able to type on a laptop that misses 'i' rather than 'f'.
Oh, although my @ key now produces " and vice versa, so that's a blast from the past. Joe fixed that for me, back in uni first year when he was installing AVG and uTorrent.
So most of my evening was spent trying to sort out my music, and by the time I had done, it was pretty much time for Battle Royale. I decided against it in the end, went for City Hunter instead. Children fighting each other to the death, or Lee Min Ho running around, beating people up, being lovely and looking hot, can you blame me?
It's Mother's Day tomorrow. This time last year, I was making her a card inspired by a Super Junior MV. I haven't done a card this year. It has literally only just occurred to me, and I'm kicking myself for it. I would do one now, but as I write this post, I'm slowly sinking deeper and deeper into my bed and I really don't think I'm going to be able to stay awake long enough. Maybe I'll make a cake tomorrow .... maybe.
She's getting Breaking Dawn, its not like she'll be paying any attention to a card anyway.

SuJu Tea Games
This is going to be a short post because 1) I'm tired and can't be bothered, 2) I want to watch City Hunter, 3) I want to read The Hunger Games.
I heard today Super Junior are planning another world tour including LONDON. I was gutted when they announced that the 'Europe' part of Super Show 4 meant a one off in Paris, but I might actually be able to go if they have it, you know, in my actual country. I hope that SMtown will come to London too, as I feel seeing everyone in SM will make the probably extortionate prices more worth it.
I went to make a cuppa, and found no teabags. Maybe I am just being hormonal, but it actually made me want to cry, in a not-really-but-I-really-could sort of way. I had to content myself with apple juice in a sippy cup instead, which cheered me up but didn't make me feel any warmer or kill my lack-of-caffeine headache. I complained to my mother, who replied with their secret location, but I'm all upstairs and in bed now, so I can't be bothered to go hunt them out.
I'm about a third of the way through The Hunger Games. So far, its pretty good, but the problem with coming into something when it already has an online presence means that a lot gets spoiled. For example, I am already aware of what happens to several of the characters, and especially aware of the ending of Mockingjay. It kind of dulls the shock somewhat, and it is the unexpected tragedies that hurt your heart the most. The only difference now is that I can place a character to the name. Battle Royale much though?
School was fine. Going to make a full sized Elizabethan costume now ...gulp.

I Love Castles
I've managed to find internet on my laptop. I'm literally sitting on a wooden chair in the corner of the living room, facing the wall. I look like I've been naughty, I feel like I should be wearing a Dunce's hat. Luckily everyone has gone to bed or I would look super unsociable. I'm glad though, even if I am mildly uncomfortable and highly suspicious of what's behind me, because sitting in a corner with internet is preferable to sitting in comfort with no internet. Last night, it took forever to get enough 3G to post, and I was so bored, you have no idea. I haven't even been able to update Twitter since I arrived, let alone check my emails or other social networking sites. Super Junior could be doing a one-off concert in Anglesey RIGHT NOW and I wouldnt have a clue. Because I'm sure the Hallyu wave has reached North Wales.
So today was super fun. We all woke up SUPER HOT, which is hard to believe because we are in Wales, but the heating here is clearly highly effective. Finally got everyone together (my Dad was rowing... rowing.) and headed out to do a spot of shopping before going for a walk or some such. We ended up not going where we had planned, but some tiny town that was nearer and had like, no proper shops. Then everyone said we should go to the castle there because 'Heather likes castles.' Literally, everyone said it. I have no idea where they all got the idea that I'm some form of castle enthusiast, but they have clearly all discussed my castle love between them. Not that I dislike castles, I do quite like them, I suppose. Just not as much as my family seem to believe. Anyway, so we went around the castle. It's yet to be finished, there are loads of tunnels and walls to climb up, and seeing as we were pretty much the only ones there, I got to run around like a kid. Then I brought a guidebook. Actually, I'm kind of seeing why everyone assumes that I'm a castles fan, in retrospect.
After lunch, where everyone had massive carveries and I had a cheese sandwich (being a vegetarian in a meat-eating family is hard, especially when my pig headed father hears us saying lets go somewhere more Heather-friendly and goes to get a fecking table) we headed back to the cottage. My parents watched rugby, Tim went for a bike ride, and Jo and I made welsh cakes and then went for a walk down to the sea, which is like 5 mins down the road, and had a massive gossip about boys. After tea, everyone older than me fell asleep on the sofa. My family having finally dragged themselves off to bed, I ran round the house trying to find internet, and here we are now.
Was this post boring? I don't normally do enough in the day to be able to blog about it. Ah well, it'll only be for a week.
Ah for crap's sake. I had internet, enough to open blogger and start writing, and to load the first part of the first episode of City Hunter, but now its gone. Its now quarter to one on tuesday morning, I've waited like an hour, and nothing. It says its connected, but I can't do anything. I need to watch City Hunter!
GAH I WANT TO GO HOME.

LEDapple and a B.A.P.
I've come across a new band. I can't stop listening to them, their music is pretty catchy and they just have this awesome presence. They're something a bit different, in a good way, and its not often you see Korean bands playing their own instruments.
Having just watched these two videos straight after each other, I realise they are quite similar. Its just these are my favourite two songs, and I ADORE the music video for the second one. There's a 10 min long teaser for it that tells the whole story. Sci-fi and kpop, how could I NOT love this?
I like the blond guy. I'm not sure of his name but I know one of them is called Kyumin. Before, I thought Kyumin was the portmanteaued name of the secret love between Kyuhyun and Sungmin of SuJu*... Why do some Asian guys look so hot with blond hair? I was going to say 'Look at B.A.P.' but have decided against it as they are all FAR TOO YOUNG. Zelo is only 15 for crying out loud. More like 'Why do some Asian guys SUIT blond hair SO WELL? ... OK, I just googled B.A.P. and got a load of bread, so in the interest of avoiding confusion should you have tried to look them up, here you go. Blond Asian People. Makes more sense than their actual acronym.
Two bands that I'm loving right now ... LEDapple and B.A.P.

*What? I'm talking about Kpop, I had to get Super Junior in there somewhere.

Secret Garden
You know, I debated about writing this post. I finished watching Secret Garden last night, and since then, have watched 3 episodes of Coffee Prince, even though I usually write my review post as soon as I have watched the last episode. I like to get my thoughts out while they were so fresh, to the extreme that for Koizora, I was unable to stop my tears throughout writing. I used to really love reviewing the Asian dramas I had just completed, sharing my opinions on them not just for myself, but for any others who should come across my blog and find my drama posts interesting. However, now it feels more like a chore. I feel like I constantly repeat myself, mostly judging everything I have seen to be 'enjoyable but nothing amazing'. Things aren't so new anymore, from the sorts of plots to the social etiquette. I've gone from culture shock and novelty to normality, and normality isn't so fun to share my thoughts on.
So hopefully, the above being said, you'll forgive me for keeping this short. Rich man, Joo Won, falls for uninterested poor woman, Ra Im. He pursues her until she caves in, and they live happily ever after. Throw in a magical and somewhat poorly explained body swap sub plot that was much less a part of the story than I had expected, and that's pretty much the gist of it.
I liked it, so much so I would spend pretty much all my free time watching it, but once again, the ending was just a little too neat. Everyone got their happy ending, which I'm noticing as somewhat of a theme in Korean dramas. Japanese dramas seem to be much more comfortable with more realistic or tragic endings, and not every story has to end with a proposal or marriage. There was one part that was super sad, where you realise how strongly Joo Won really feels for Ra Im rather than being a spoilt little boy wanting what he can't have, but obviously, you know that it's all going to work out one way or another, especially when were still 4 episodes left. However, I am noticing that Korean dramas are much more comfortable with real kisses, which was something that always turned romantic moments to amusing ones in Japanese dramas, the whole barbie kiss mood killer.
I was fangirling Super Junior once (HAH yeah, just the once), and they were acting out the most notable scenes in this drama, but I didn't put the two together until I saw the real scenes. I love those boys, look how cheeky Leeteuk is with his pocky game, how Shindong is just sitting in the corner eating, and how Eunhyuk and Kyuhyun sabotage their poor leader who was obviously embarrassed and regretting the pocky idea. I don't know why they are all in PJ's, even if it is cute. EDIT - while looking for a good image to put up, I found Kyu wearing Joo Won's tracksuit. I genuinely screamed. I love finding Super Junior when I'm not looking for them <3
So I'm already on to my next one, Coffee Prince. Girl pretends to be a guy ... again. I don't know why this is such a common theme in Asian drama, but there you go. I have to admit though, I do still find the whole straight guy thinking he is gay because he fell in love with girl-pretending-to-be-guy very amusing, so its all good. I don't know whether I'll do a review, I might just include bits in my normal posts as I go rather than holding everything back for one whole post. I'm a little disappointed in the visual aspect so far though *cough*moreprettyguysplease*cough*.

FROM GOOGLE. The sit-up scene. I loved the guys in the background, all pretending to kiss each other when they realised what Joo Won was trying to do. Seriously though, he did wear some hideous tracksuits.

EXO
So SM Entertainment have been promoting their new boyband for what feels like ages now, and last night, they released their first MV. I figured I would share a few thoughts.
SM are a Korean label, and home to some of my favourite bands, namely Super Junior, TVXQ/DBSK, SHINee and Trax. Their new group, the first boyband to debut since SHINee I believe, are called EXO, and consist of two sub groups, EXO K and EXO M, coming together to make EXO PLANET. They will release their songs in both Korean and Mandarin. Kind of like Super Junior M releasing Perfection in Mandarin and Korean at the same time, but less biased.
Up until now, all we have seen are teaser trailers, a few minutes at a time, introducing us primarily to the dance skills of the members, and mostly introducing us to Kai. I'm not hating on the boy, he is clearly really talented for SM to promote him so much more than the other members, some of whom I'm pretty sure haven't even been revealed yet, but I'm not surprised that people started to think EXO M was the group while EXO K actually stood for EXO KAI.
Their first song and MV, 'What is Love', I have to admit, isn't really my sort of thing. A bit ballad-y, and far too much use of 'baby'. So why has the tune being going through my head almost constantly all day?? To be honest its kinda addictive. I've seen comparisons to TVXQ's 'Before You Go', and I can see why from all the 'oooooh''s and the tune and whatnot, but its not like its a carbon copy. These boys would have been in training throughout TVXQ's career, obviously they would be inspired by them. Its not likely they wrote the song anyway, they'll just be singing what and how SM tells them to.
The MV's are pretty cool and suit the song well, the two versions being subtly different but both very visually dynamic, being set in sparse countryside and a run down hut with sunshine filtering in through the walls and roof, which is added to the drama of an eclipse. However, I think I prefer the Mandarin vocal and the Korean video. The Mandarin video seemed to throw in some of the teaser footage somewhat haphazardly, and it didn't fit in with the song or the rest of the video at all. It feels like they ran out of footage half way through so shoved whatever in as filler while the Korean version felt much more consistent.
I like it, I really do, but I'll probably only want to listen to it when I'm specifically in the mood for it, meaning I'd more than likely skip it a fair amount. I do, however, eagerly anticipate what comes next from these boys, and their official debut.
At least they won't break their debut stage, like B.A.P. did ...

Japanese/British Candy Swap
You know, I sat down at my laptop this evening before 11pm to blog, and somehow, from watching Japanese cooking videos on youtube (namely runnyrunny999, he's awesome), I got on to fangirling Super Junior. I have literally no idea how the one could turn into the other, but that's the skill of an ELF (SuJu fan) I guess, to make everything eventually be about Super Junior.
Another super lazy day today, spent mostly watching Secret Garden, although I did also start on disk 2 of my Japanese audio course. I can now introduce myself confidently in Japanese, so that's useful.
Konbanwa. Watashi wa Heather desu. Yoroshiku. Ego ga wakarimasu ka? Watashi wa igirisu-jin desu.
All I need to learn now is 'buy me candy' and I'm all set.
Out of context that probably sounds very wrong. I just want to try Japanese candy and sweets. Its just so different that anything we have here in the UK, so its really intriguing to me. However, its so expensive to buy, as obviously, you have to get it shipped over from Japan or Korea and as it is very much a novelty, they can charge what they want for it. So any Japanese readers out there (unlikely, I know) who have somehow come across this blog, I will quite happily send you British confectionery in return for the Japanese counterpart. I'm happy to try even the weird stuff, like purple potato kitkat and curry flavour pocky, you lovely albeit odd country ^^.

You're Beautiful
The title of this post makes it sound like this is going to be a really lovely entry, full of positivity and how to feel good bout yourself.
No.
Its about the Korean drama.
Firstly, it was weird watching a drama in another language. It was like I was back at the beginning again, with the only words I could understand being very basic. I'm not saying I became fluent in Japanese through watching dramas, far from it, but I certainly picked up a lot, and I missed the feeling of being able to pick up certain words. There were a lot of -mida's rather than -masu's, and I found I couldn't let my attention wonder without loosing track completely of what was going on. Another difference was the length of the episodes and series. Japanese dramas tend to be about 45 mins long, and with about 11 episodes. You're Beautiful was 70 mins long with 16 episodes. Things that happened in the second episode of Ikemen Desu Ne didn't happen until the 4th episode of You're Beautiful. Not that the series felt like it was dragging, far from it, although I cant say that there was anything more really added for that time.
Obviously, the names were different. Mio became Mi Nam, Ren was Tae Kyung, Shu was Shin Woo, and Yuki became Jeremy. The characters were all very much the same, and I was surprised how similar Ren and Tae Kyung were in literally every aspect. Yes, the Shin Woo predicament still broke my heart and made me soooo angry, as did the general doucheness of Tae Kyung, but it was still really fun and I enjoyed it a lot.
Which do I prefer? Hard to say, but I think I'm going to have to go with Ikemen. I realise this is probably because it was the one I saw first, and due to this, I pretty much knew everything was going to happen, but certain things that didn't make sense in the Korean version were altered for the Japanese. There was more back story of Mio and Mika's childhood, and I was so much more affected by Yuki's love of Mio than Jeremy's of Mi Nam. Basically, it all boils down to the fact that I cried at Ikemen, but not at You're Beautiful. However, the latter did mention Super Junior on more than one occasion, and even did a parody of Sorry Sorry, so they do get bonus points for that.
I cant really do connections, and I'm not sure I want to when the chances of a Gokusen link are so low. But Shin Woo is the leader of CNBlue, and Jeremy is the leader of FT Island, two Kpop bands I am well aware of even though I don't have much experience of them.
Next up is the Korean version of Hana Yori Dango, Boys Before Flowers. You may get a rant post, but otherwise, don't expect to hear from me about this series for a while, as it is like 25 episodes long ...

Yankee-kun to Megane-chan
I know, I know. You're thinking, yet again, how has she had time to watch another whole series when she should be super busy with NaNoWriMo? Well, I'm going to do exactly what I did last time with Ikemen Desu Ne, and just ignore the issue. ^^
I'll be honest, this series didn't keep me particularly hooked. I more watched it as light relief between writing and or avoiding doing actual work than I did because I was desperate to see the next episode. This is not to say I didn't enjoy it though. It was amusing and the characters were fun, as well as having enough action to keep it entertaining.
The story focused mainly on high school student Shinagawa, who was constantly targeted and coerced into fights by delinquents, who are known as Yankees, because he cannot be beaten, even though he actually wants to study hard in school to become a doctor. On the first day of school, he meets Hana, a girl with plaits and glasses who acts like a stereotype school girl, but is in fact trying to turn over a new leaf from her Yankee days in middle school, when she was the famed Hurricane Ada. The plot of the series is mostly about Hana trying to make Shinagawa join in with their class mates to enjoy their school lives together, with a little bit of random fighting thrown in here and there to add a bit on tension.
It was a good series, and having just watched the last episode, I was nearly in tears and laughing out loud throughout, so that's always a good sign. I particularly enjoyed the 'this development ...' moments, when Shinagawa was expecting Hana to confess to him when she wasn't. To be honest, Hana was to stupid to realise whether she liked him or not, and Shinagawa was majorly hung up over a girl who had lent him a pen at the entrance exams without even realising it was Hana all along. Basically, they are both stupid. I have to admit though, that whenever Hana went into a fight, I always half expected her to pull out her plaits and take off her glasses Gokusen style, not that she ever did. Also, I constantly got distracted by how Shinagawa actually had the mouth of a cat.

From Google. Hana being Hana, resorting to childish means to get Shinagawa to do what she wants. I wish you could see his cat mouth, but I couldn't find any decent pictures of it.
Shinagawa was in Gokusen and Tokyo Dogs, not that I can recall him in the latter, but that he was in Gokusen means he must be like late 20's and still playing high school students, so that's a little concerning. Hana's best friend and somwhat less reformed Yankee, Rinka, was also in Tokyo Dogs, again I have no idea as who, but was Haruhi in Ouran High School Host Club. Shinagawa's hot best friend was in Tokyo Dogs, Mei-chan no Shitsuji and original Hana Kimi.
Next on my list is 1 Litre of Tears, which is a a drama I have been hearing about for a long time as one that will make the title come true. I think I'm going to have to wait to start this one until NaNo is over and I have finished my short, because if its anything like Koizora, its best if I'm not around people for a while.
Also, if I remember correctly, along with Nobuta wo Produce, it is SuJu's Heechul's favourite drama ^^ ....oh Heenim, I miss you.
ANYWAY, after this drama I only have one film and one drama until I have made my way through all the japanese dramas on dramacrazy.net's top 50. Then to go back and watch the other Asian ones, including different language versions of most of what I've already watched ... XD

Ikemen Desu Ne
Right, I know what you're thinking.
'How could Heather possibly be doing her review post of this new show she only started last week when it is NaNoWriMo? Surely she is far too busy WRITING 50 000 WORDS IN A MONTH to be spending all her time watching J dramas?'
ahem... so anyway ....
This show didn't make me nearly so ranty as I was afraid it would, and I managed to contain all afore mentioned rantyness to the edits of one post. That it not to say I wasn't practically screaming in annoyance to Mio's lack of recognition of Shu throughout the whole thing. I also nearly cried when she turned down lovable Yuki, even though it was super funny how he was all conflicted thinking he was in love with a boy, while Shu and Ren knew she was a girl pretty much straight away. But for the most part, it was really good fun and I even found myself cheering for Mio and Ren by the end.
I just love the comedy of these dramas. Obviously there were loads of things that could go wrong with a former nun taking her brothers place in a top idol pop group while he recovered in hospital, although literally everyone falling in love with her just because she is the only girl in the vicinity, no matter whether they realised it or not, is a little annoyingly unrealistic.
The manager of the group always came out with odd phrases in English, normally just bits like 'hurry up' or 'wonderful', but in the first episode, a minor problem had cropped up. Everyone else was like 'oh bother' while he stood up and screamed out 'HOLY SHIT', which amused me greatly. Obviously there was the whole falling on to the guy's lips, which was conversely followed up with vomiting into his mouth, which was new. Lots of dramatic hugging and barbie kisses too, which always amuses me.
Haven't had a picture for a while ...
The only thing that really bothered me, other than the whole Shu thing, which I'm not going to go into it, I'm not going to say how lovely he was and how he took her on a telephone date and brought her loads but she didnt even know he was there, or how when he was telling her about the girl she liked, she was so heartbreakingly clueless that he was talking about her, and how he cried when she turned him down... where was I? Oh yeah, the thing that bothered me was the lack of relationship between Miko 'Mio' and the real Mio, her brother. Mio was supposed to get into showbiz for his sister, so they could meet their mother, who ended up long dead, and while we saw the conflict this gave Miko 'Mio', as far as we are aware, real Mio never saw his sister to hear the story. Obviously, they were the same actor so that was probably why, although it was impressive how much more manly they made real Mio, but it just didn't make sense to me that they were 'so close' and yet never bothered to see each other. Also, for a show with Ikemen in the title, basically meaning handsome guys, I didn't really notice that many hot men. Sure, Shu and Yuki were cute after you got over the fact that they were a little too pretty, and Ren looked much better when his hair was natural, but there was a distinct lack of hot manly guys. Throw in a Yamapi and it would have been much more agreeable.*
Connections. Ren was in the Gokusen movie, so there's the Gokusen link even though I haven't seen it yet. Jealous Nana who constantly threatened to reveal Mio's identity was also in Mei-chan no Shitsugi and Gokusen 3. Ren's Mum was in the original Hana Kimi special, although I have no idea as who. Wow, not very many connections here, although I didn't really recognise anyone, so that makes sense.
Now I'm back on my list after that little backtrack and next up is Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, something along the line of bad girl goes good and good guy goes bad, so that should be fun.

Drama: Yankee-kun to Megane-chan 1
Manga: Hana Kimi 57 / Love so Life 7
NaNoWriMo backlog: 10 128 words (damn it, and I was catching up!)
*I was wikipedia-ing Yamapi (Yamashita Tomohisa of Nobuta wo Produce, Kurosagi, and Buzzer Beat who happens to be rather hot) when I found some photos not leaving much to the imagination. I think I nearly got a nose bleed.
P.S. In other news, I downloaded Super Junior's Super Show 3 album last night, and on the track names, the solo's were in hangul, which obviously I cannot read.. I correctly identified everyone by just the sound of their voice ^^. I'm so cool.

From Google. Look how jealous they all are! Ren sitting on the left, Shu standing up at the back, Yuki standing up on the right, and Mio looking idiotic in the middle. The guy with his arm around her was in the Korean version, I think, playing Ren's character.
